BE-IN-GENDER
Be-in-G (Be in Gender)” es un proyecto fotográfico que nace de la colaboración con un grupo de personas trans y la autora. Mediante una serie de retratos fotográficos apoyados por textos, se pretende dar visibilidad a lo trans en la contemporaneidad, además de generar una serie de reflexiones en lo referente al significado de la palabra género. El proyecto retrata a un gran números chicos trans, que han decidido vivir su identidad de manera libre, cuestionando el propio sistema de categorización binaria (hombre-mujer como única opción) propia de nuestra cultura occidental.
La elección de representar únicamente a chicos trans también es fruto de una reflexión conjunta. Las necesidades de cada persona que forma parte de un colectivo son diferentes, habiendo una gran variedad de grises que deben ser atendidos. Es ahí donde están las brechas y donde este proyecto quiere poner la lupa, ya que esas brechas dejan a personas desprotegidas por no encajar en la idea de que lo que trans significa para gran parte de la sociedad. “Todo puede ir bien siempre que te asemejes a unos de los dos polos de lo binario” Gracias al trabajo realizado en un grupo de debate junto a diferentes hombres trans, se analizó y reflexionó hasta lograr un consenso sobre cómo explicar visualmente una realidad compleja y llena de matices. Esto también nos permitió comprender que explicando de una manera detallada la realidad de estos hombres trans podría entenderse mejor una realidad compleja así como conceptos aplicables al resto de identidades.
Be-in-G (Be in Gender)” is a photographic project that was born from the collaboration with a group of trans people. Through a series of photographic portraits supported by texts, the aim is to give visibility to transness in contemporary times, in addition to generating a series of reflections regarding the meaning of the word gender. The project portrays a large number of trans boys, who have decided to live their identity freely, questioning the very binary categorization system (man-woman as the only option) typical of our Western culture.
The choice to represent only trans boys is also the result of a joint reflection. The needs of each person who is part of a group are different, with a great variety of grays that must be addressed.
This is where the gaps are and where this project wants to put the magnifying glass, since these gaps leave unprotected the people who do not fit into the idea of what trans means to a large part of society. “Everything can go well as long as you resemble one of the two poles of the binary” Thanks to the work carried out in a discussion group with different trans boys, it was analyzed and reflected until a consensus was reached on how to visually explain the subject with all its nuances. This also allowed us to understand that by explaining in a detailed way the reality of these trans men, we could better understand a complex reality as well as concepts applicable to the rest of the identities.
